Review of the 'Blendtec Total Blender'

Are you fed up with your current blender's inability to blend more than just soft fruits and cooked vegetables? Are high end blenders worth the price tag or is it just hype?

I wrote this review to help answer such questions, so you can decide for yourself if the Blendtec Total Blender is right for you. Below, you’ll find my own opinion based on hours of research and my own personal experience using the Blendtec Total Blender, after purchase.

For years I made do with my Oster Beehive blender, but I make smoothies everyday and spend a fair amount of time in the kitchen, I realized it was time to upgrade to a top of the line blender for all the reasons given below.

After researching the Blendtec and Vitamix (along with other blenders) and speaking with friends and family who owned both brands, I knew the Blendtec Total Blender was right for me. One question lingered after my purchase, why did I wait so long?

What will the Blendtec Total Blender do for you?

Or perhaps the question should be, what won’t Blendtec Total Blender do for you?

The Blendtec Total Blender you can make the perfect smoothie. Whether you choose to make the ever popular green smoothie (one containing ice cubes, nuts, seeds or whatever you decide), you’ll get a thick, creamy texture without any chunks and be able to this month after month. Low end blenders, such as the Oster, can’t even come close to the rich creaminess. Whatever you want to blend, they simply won't blend as thoroughly as the high end commercial blenders. There’s even a handy smoothie button, on the Blendtec Total Blender, which makes the entire process of making smoothies a breeze. All you have to decide is what you want to put in the blender and the blender does the rest for you!!

In my opinion, this is the best blender for making smoothies, but that’s just the beginning of what you can create with your Blendtec. You can also make juices, dressings, soups, nut milks and nut butters, yogurt, sauces, spreads, marinades, salsas, batters, dips, and more. You can even grind up grains and make your own homemade baby food purees! With your Blendtec Total Blender purchase you’ll also receive a beautiful 213 page recipe book chalk full of recipes for making the various things I just listed.

Weighing up the different features

Blendtec Touchpad Buttons LCD Screen

When talking to others who also love their Blendtec, a feature which stood out was the pre-programmed blending cycles. Put simply, there are well marked buttons on the Blendtec touch pad to cater for all your blending needs, much like the Smoothie button I mentioned above.

These buttons include.....

Ice Cream/Frozen Yogurt

Ice Crush/Milkshake

Soups/Syrups/Fondues

Sauces/Dips/Dressings/Batters

Whole Juice and Smoothie

Simply press the desired blending button and then you can sit back and watch the Blendtec do it’s thing. It will shut off automatically when finished. These automatic blending cycles make sure the desired consistency and texture is achieved every time. Few people can remember exactly how long and at what speeds they blend everything. So, the blending buttons remove any guesswork. It's that simple.

You can also choose to use the speed up and speed down buttons (10 speeds available) and also the pulse button. Directly below these buttons you will find an handy little LCD screen, indicating how long your automatic blend has left to go. It will also show how long you’ve been blending for. It also keeps track of your total number of blends. Very handy, as this shows you how much use you are putting the machine through and if you ever decided to sell it on, on eBay, this is something people will want to know when buying. Just think of it as the millage on your car. This is truly a “smart” blender and something that's not available on any other blander that I've heard of.

Not even the Vitamix gives you so many options and function as the Blendtec Total Blender, as it only has basic knobs and no display.

Other Noteworthy Features

  • Plastic Jar: The square BPA-free blender jug holds 2 quarts, and has a nicely secure rubber lid that stops liquids spilling over onto your kitchen worktop. This design also helps force what you're blending down vortex, at the center of the jug, down to blade-level. Which means your smoothie (or whatever you're making) will blend evenly. The jar is lightweight and virtually unbreakable. As it has for corners, it's easy to pour liquids from the jug and has a handy measurements (cups or ounces) along the side. Three quart jars are also now available, if you feel you need more volume at a later date and can be bough on their own as an extra jug, when needed, or as a replacement for the one you have.

  • Power: The Blendtec has a commercial grade 1,560-watt, 3 HP (Peak Horsepower) direct-drive motor and a 2-prong stainless-steel blade that spins at up to 29,000 rpm. This baby is one powerful machine will blend just about anything you throw at it, from almond nuts to hard stemmed vegetables, like celery and broccoli. More and more research is finding that the stems, skins and seeds of certain plants or fruits are beneficial. This also leads to less prep work, while at the same time less waste.

  • Maximum Nutrition: Finally, you can unlock every ounce of nutrition from both fruits and vegetables by utilizing the Blendtec Total Blender’s ability to thoroughly break down cell walls. You will find this this is especially important when blending greens such as kale, spinach, and chard.

  • Sleek & Modern Design: Measuring 7 by 8 by 15.5 inches, the Blendtec Total Blender fits easily on most kitchen worktops.

  • Lifetime Warranty: The Blendtec blade has a lifetime warranty. You’ll never have to worry about it getting dull. There's a three year warranty on the motor-base and a one year warranty on the jug, itself.

  • Easy to Clean: Cleanup is a breeze. Simply add warm water, a little soap and press the 'pulse' button for a few seconds. Then rinse, and you’re done!

  • Free Recipe Book: With your Blendtec you get a 213 page recipe book. You will get an instructional DVD, with 16 recipe videos. Lastly, there's the owner’s manual and users guide, to get you started on your road to health, well-being and longevity.
